The Championships were presented in the Bloemhofdam and more specifically the area know as the "sloep" reknowned for its big barbel and big bags of fish. During the competition Micaela caught the second biggest Grass Carp of 2.210 Kg and only missed the medal for the biggest by a mere 5 grams.
Thats not fair ! A prize fish anyway you look at it.John Craig on the other hand conquered as the Catfish Champion by catching the biggest Barble on every day and recieved the gold medal for one of 9,88Kg. They say "klein botteljies dra groot gif" This is it.
John Craig was also invited to the National Trials and he stands a good chance of making one of the National Teams again. He recieved his National Federation colours last year.
True to real fishermen and woman they never stop fishing. Even after a hard days fishing in a championship they stil have the desire to catch a bigger fish. Micaela ....... get this! .......caught a Barble of 17.78 Kg which really sounds like a "scaly" story especially if you look at the size of her! but the scale was not scaly!
It's longer than her!!!!!!! .............. I think it even weighs more than her !!!!!! And this is how she did it. Simply brute force !!!!!! Take note guys ...... take note of the mussle!!!
And off course Daddy was there to help hold on to prevent the catfish dragging her in at times.
The kids also have some fun in between and the ussual initiation for new members of the team was not neglected.
AS A PROVINCE WE ARE VERY PROUD OF THE WHOLE TEAM FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE FOR THE SPORT AND THE PROVINCE.
